Meta Fashion has sold over 2.5 million digital fashion items, generated Rs 2.5 crore in revenue, and raised $400,000 in pre-seed funding, all while its founder is still completing his degree
Arjun Goel began his career in the theater industry and later realized that the biggest opportunity in front of him was the digital fashion space on Roblox. The apparent shift from theater to fashion might seem unusual, but both fields necessitate the same core competency in the market: the ability to analyze what makes people tick in terms of their aspirations and self-representation.
Meta Fashion, the company Goel founded while pursuing a Technology and Business Management degree at Masters’ Union, designs and sells virtual fashion items for user avatars on Roblox. The platform’s 300-plus million registered users spend real money on digital identity, and Goel saw that behaviour before most traditional fashion brands did.
The Numbers So Far
Meta Fashion has been able to reportedly sell over 2.5 million fashion products in the virtual world and has generated revenue upwards of Rs. 2.5 crores; this is after the pre-seed funding round in which they raised $400,000 dollars.
The Zara Comparison
When Arjun Goel says that he aspires to be to the gaming industry what Zara is to the fashion industry, he doesn’t merely mean bigger than others. The key differentiating factor of Zara is its ability to respond to the signals that culture provides and deliver new products ahead of its competitors. And it is that speed which Goel is trying to acquire for his startup.
Why Roblox Is Not Just a Game
Arjun is adamant that Roblox is much more than just a gaming platform. He believes it is an emerging social platform where the digital identity is as important as it is on Instagram; Roblox is providing an opportunity for people to express their identity through avatars instead of pictures.
