During his Independence Day address, PM Modi put young Indians, startups, and research at the centre of India’s development ambitions.
On August 15, India’s Independence Day, Prime Minister NarendraModi, while addressing the crowd at the Red Fort, urged the Indian youth to dream big and pursue their dreams. He highlighted the government’s ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund as a key source of support for research, innovation, and new capabilities. In his address, he placed young Indians at the centre of India’s long-term development plans.
The ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund is intended to strengthen India’s research and innovation ecosystem and provide financial backing for ideas with potential to create wider economic and technological impact. PM Modi called on the nation’s youth to bring forward ideas, saying that a lack of resources shouldn’t prevent them from pursuing ambitious projects. For startups, researchers, and young entrepreneurs, access to capital remains a crucial factor in turning early-stage ideas into commercially viable products and technologies. Therefore, the fund is positioned as part of a wider policy effort to improve the environment for innovation in India.

He noted that young entrepreneurs are contributing not only to their own employment but also to job creation for others. The expansion of startups across sectors has become an important part of India’s broader economic strategy, particularly as the country seeks to generate more high-value employment and build globally competitive businesses.

The address also highlighted the role of Digital India, affordable data and skill development in widening opportunities for younger generations. Separately, the government announced plans to provide AI training to one crore young people, underlining the growing importance of technology and digital skills in the employment landscape.
The announcements indicate that youth employment, entrepreneurship, research and emerging technologies are likely to remain significant components of India’s development agenda as the country works towards its 2047 goals.
