New MoU focuses on higher education, deep tech, entrepreneurship, and talent development as India and Indonesia strengthen strategic ties.
India and Indonesia have taken another step towards expanding cooperation in science, education, and technology with a new agreement between Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) seeks to create stronger links in research, innovation, deep technology, entrepreneurship, and talent development.
This agreement follows the recent bilateral summit between Prime Minister NarendraModi and Indonesian President PrabowoSubianto, during which both leaders reaffirmed their intent to deepen cooperation in higher education, science, technology, and innovation.
Emphasis on collaborative research.
The partnership encourages researchers and institutions from both countries to work more closely. The proposed cooperation is expected to support joint research initiatives and help develop innovation ecosystems that can address practical economic and technological challenges.
For Indonesia, working with an established Indian research institution provides an avenue to strengthen academic and technology networks. For India, the partnership adds another dimension to its growing engagement with Southeast Asian countries.
Taking priority is deep tech commercialisation.
Deep technology is another major area covered by the agreement. The partnership aims to help move research and technological developments beyond laboratories towards commercial applications. This focus is significant as both countries seek to build stronger domestic capabilities in emerging technologies.
