Quick Heal founder’s journey comes into focus as company navigates a tough Q4in 2026
Kailash Katkar, founder of Quick Heal Technologies, was born in November 1966 in the small Maharashtrian village of Rahimatpur before his family moved to Pune, where his father worked as a machine setter at Philips. Financial constraints forced Katkar to leave formal education after failing his ninth-standard exams, and he took up work at a local radio and calculator repair shop rather than continuing school.
Building an Entrepreneurial Foundation
In 1990, Katkar used his personal savings of ₹15,000 to open his own repair shop, laying the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey. Even as he ran the shop, he enhanced his technical abilities through short courses. Two years later, in 1993, he set up CAT Computer Services with a small, one-room repair unit and bagged his first big break – an annual maintenance contract from New India Insurance.
The Birth of Quick Heal
Recognising that the rise of internet connectivity would expose computers to growing security threats, Katkar began developing antivirus solutions with his brother Sanjay, who had studied computer engineering. That collaboration led to the creation of Quick Heal. The company, originally CAT Computer Services, was rebranded as Quick Heal Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in 2007 after establishing itself as a full-fledged IT security provider.
Financial Performance
Quick Heal Technologies offered its IPO on February 18th, 2016, selling shares in the range of ₹311 and ₹321 with an offer of up to ₹250 crore in fresh issue. ICICI Securities, Jefferies India and J.P. Morgan India managed the offer while Link Intime India was its registrar.
Recently, however, the company faced headwinds. On June 11th, 2026, Quick Heal reported a 25.19% drop year-on-year in the revenue to ₹48.73 crore and net loss of ₹19.94 crore in the fourth quarter.
This came after its threat intelligence division, Seqrite, issued the India Cyber Threat Report 2026, pinpointing Maharashtra and Delhi as major hotspots for malware with 265 million detected infections across the country.
