State government signals stronger policy support as Northeast India gains momentum in the startup ecosystem.
Arunachal Pradesh is now stepping up its efforts to strengthen its startup ecosystem, with Deputy Chief Minister Chowma Mein reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting innovation-led businesses and early-stage entrepreneurs. Speaking at a startup investment pitching session in Itanagar, Mein said the state is actively working to build a stronger environment for startups through infrastructure, funding, and policy support.
A key highlight from the event was the government’s assurance that it would positively consider the creation of a state-backed venture capital fund, an initiative that could improve access to funding for local startups, especially in their early growth stages.
Building a startup ecosystem in the Northeast.
Over the last few years, Arunachal Pradesh has been quietly expanding its entrepreneurial infrastructure through the Arunachal Pradesh Innovation and Investment Park (APIIP), which has become a central hub for startup incubation and investment facilitation in the state.
The government also announced plans for a dedicated building for APIIP in the upcoming financial year, signaling long-term investment in innovation infrastructure. The initiative aligns with a larger vision of creating “job creators” rather than “job seekers,” a message increasingly being emphasized in emerging startup regions.
National recognition adds momentum.
Arunachal’s startup ambitions have gained fresh momentum after being named a “Best Performer” in India’s National Startup Ranking 2025, a recognition that reflects its growing efforts in policy implementation, incubation support, and entrepreneur development.
This recognition is significant for a state that has traditionally remained outside India’s mainstream startup hubs. It also highlights how smaller states are becoming increasingly active contributors to the country’s innovation economy. With India now home to over 200,000 DPIIT-recognized startups, regional ecosystems are becoming an important part of the country’s growth story. Arunachal Pradesh’s latest moves suggest that the Northeast could play a larger role in the next wave of entrepreneurship, especially in sectors tied to sustainability, tourism, agriculture, and local innovation.
For emerging founders in the region, the message is clear: institutional support is growing, and the startup landscape is beginning to open up in new ways.
