Looking beyond funding, Hyderabad’s startup ecosystem seeks better capital market access

As per the latest industry reports, there is a need for growth capital and stronger market access as Hyderabad’s startup ecosystem enters its next phase of expansion.

Telangana’s Hyderabad is one city to have firmly established itself as one of the leading startup destinations in India. However, industry stakeholders believe the city’s next challenge is no longer creating startups; it’s helping them scale. A recent ecosystem study has indicated that founders, investors, and policymakers are now placing greater emphasis on improving access to growth capital and expanding market opportunities for emerging companies.

The findings suggest that while Hyderabad continues to perform well in attracting entrepreneurs and tech talent, startups require stronger financial support and broader market access to compete nationally and globally.

Massive attention is put on infrastructure.

As per the Hyderabad Startup Readiness Index 2026, the city’s infrastructure and connectivity remain its biggest competitive advantage, followed by the availability of skilled talent and relatively cost-effective business operations. These factors have helped Hyderabad evolve into one of India’s fastest-growing tech and innovation hubs.

The city, especially over the past decade, has built a strong reputation across sectors including enterprise software, AI, life sciences and deep technology. The city is home to more than 10,000 startups, has attracted over $3 billion in venture funding since 2014 and hosts more than 355 Global Capability Centres (GCCs), reinforcing its position as a preferred destination for innovation-led businesses.

Growth capital rises as the biggest need.

While the startup ecosystem continues to expand, stakeholders believe access to growth-stage funding remains a significant hurdle. The report, based on feedback from founders, investors, corporates and ecosystem enablers, found that financing and market access have emerged as the most pressing concerns for startups looking to scale beyond their early stages. Founders highlighted funding gaps across different stages of growth, while investors pointed to limited availability of capital for scaling businesses. Industry observers note that as startups mature, they require larger pools of capital, stronger institutional backing and easier access to domestic as well as international customers to sustain long-term growth.

The report also highlights the importance of closer collaboration between entrepreneurs, investors, corporates and government institutions. Ecosystem enablers remain optimistic about Hyderabad’s supportive startup environment, but agree that stronger partnerships will be essential to help more companies transition from promising startups into globally competitive enterprises.

With India’s startup ecosystem becoming increasingly competitive, improving access to growth financing and expanding business opportunities could determine how successfully Hyderabad will be able to produce its next generation of high-growth companies. The latest findings suggest that sustained access to capital markets, deeper investment networks and broader market reach will play a critical role in shaping the city’s future as a global innovation hub.
