Apple Intelligence is changing the way people think about their emails by bringing artificial intelligence into their Mail app
Apple is overhauling its Mail app in iOS 27 with a suite of AI-powered features that address some of the most persistent frustrations with email on iPhone, including poor search, generic auto-replies, and the tedium of drafting routine messages from scratch.
Smarter Search That Understands Intent
The first noticeable change is in the way Mail processes searches. Instead of sorting the information by keywords and recency, the new Mail app now orders emails by their relevance and user needs. For example, if you need to find a confirmation of an order, you will see it much earlier than any advertisements sent by the same store.
Siri Lives Inside Mail Now
With the advent of iOS 27, a long-press action on any email opens Siri within the Mail app. A user can ask Siri questions regarding the emails sent, such as the summary of the email, tracking the package, getting details about the flight, saving photos, or adding information to Reminders. As it goes on with the conversation with users, Siri saves the dialogue not only in Mail but also in Siri app.
Writing Assistance and Smarter Replies
A new Write with Siri feature appears above the keyboard and can draft complete emails, suggest rewriting options, and adapt to an individual user’s punctuation habits, tone, and writing style over time. Smart Reply has also been improved, with suggested one-tap responses now personalised to sound like what the user would actually write rather than generic template phrases.
Connecting Mail to the Rest of the Phone
A new Call Context feature links Mail and the Phone app so that when a user calls an airline, retailer, or restaurant, relevant information from associated emails, including reservation numbers and order details, appears on screen automatically. Apple says the feature works entirely on-device without analysing call audio. Contextual Suggestions have also expanded, allowing flight confirmations, restaurant reservations, package tracking, and map links to connect directly with Calendar, Maps, and Wallet, with third-party apps now supported as well.
