Reliance: Turning AI to power the future of the entertainment niche

RIL recently spoke about AI and how it can define the next gen of entertainment and can transform content creation, audience engagement, and consumer experience.

Reliance Industries, the MukeshAmbani-led conglomerate, is working toward doubling down on artificial intelligence (AI). RIL is now looking forward to making new waves with the power of AI in the world of entertainment. Through the conglomerate’s expansive media and entertainment network, it has already been positioning AI as a central pillar of its next growth phase, as per the company’s latest annual report.

Reliance said this about AI in the entertainment niche.

The conglomerate said that AI will not simply function as a productivity tool behind the scenes, but it will also become deeply integrated into how content is created, distributed, and experienced by audiences across platforms. In its report, the company stated, “AI will define the next era of entertainment,” and added how Reliance intends to “reimagine everything from script to screen and from idea to experience.” The company’s media and entertainment business, which includes JioStar, Jio Studios, and Network18, delivered strong growth in FY26, supported by rising digital consumption and expanding audience engagement.

Revenue from operations for the segment surged to ₹34,917 crore during the financial year, nearly doubling from ₹17,762 crore a year earlier. On the other hand, the company’s OTT section also saw substantial traction with its streaming platforms reaching an average of 451 million monthly active users. This further strengthened its position in India’s highly competitive digital entertainment sector.

AI to transform content and consumer experience.

Reliance believes AI can play a transformative role across the entertainment value chain. It said that AI-led optimisation has already been helping improve efficiencies in content production and creative workflows. This has also opened new opportunities for personalised entertainment experiences. The broader vision includes interactive formats, voice-enabled features, and vertical video content designed specifically for mobile-first consumers. The company also plans to strengthen its recommendation and personalisation engines to deliver more tailored viewing experiences.

Reliance has thus outlined a multi-layered strategy that focuses on strengthening its dominance in large-screen entertainment while accelerating the transition from traditional television to connected TV platforms. The report noted, “As the customer value proposition evolves, efforts are underway to expand monetisation models beyond traditional advertising and subscription streams.”

Reliance, however, also acknowledged that the entertainment business faces growing challenges, including rising content production costs and increasing audience fragmentation across platforms. It noted that success in the coming years will depend on platform-agnostic strategies and the ability to create content that resonates across multiple formats and devices.
