MUMBAI, October 23, 2026: Reliance Industries-backed Jio Platforms’ ₹30,213-crore initial public offering (IPO) attracted overwhelming investor demand on Friday, with subscriptions exceeding 13 times the shares on offer on the final day of bidding, according to Reuters.
The public issue received more than 12 million applications, setting a record for an Indian IPO, as investors sought exposure to one of the country’s largest telecommunications and digital services businesses. The strong response highlights investor interest in India’s digital economy, even as concerns about technology valuations and global market volatility persist.

The IPO, which opened on October 21 and closes on October 23, is valued at up to approximately $108.3 billion at the upper end of its price band. Jio Platforms is expected to list on the BSE and NSE on October 28.

Institutional investors lead demand
Institutional investors emerged as the strongest contributors to the IPO’s subscription, with the qualified institutional buyer (QIB) category subscribed approximately 35 times its allotted portion, Reuters reported.
Retail investors also participated strongly, subscribing around 2.48 times their reserved portion. Existing Reliance Industries shareholders and eligible employees subscribed 7.16 times and 2.77 times their respective allocations, according to the report.
The strong institutional participation is significant because large investors typically evaluate a company’s financial performance, competitive position, growth prospects and valuation before committing capital.
However, high subscription levels do not guarantee listing gains. The stock’s eventual performance will depend on market conditions, the final issue price, earnings expectations and investor demand after listing.

What makes Jio Platforms attractive to investors?
Jio Platforms operates across telecommunications and digital services, with its business anchored by Reliance Jio’s large mobile subscriber base. Reuters reported that the company serves more than 500 million mobile customers and counts Meta and Google among its investors.

Investors are assessing the company’s ability to generate further growth from mobile connectivity, home broadband, digital services and emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence.
The business also occupies a central position in Reliance Industries’ broader strategy of expanding its consumer-facing and technology-led operations.
For investors, the key question is whether Jio Platforms can convert its scale and market position into sustained revenue growth, stronger profitability and long-term cash generation.
Valuation remains a key question
Despite the strong subscription response, the IPO’s valuation is likely to remain a major point of debate.
A valuation of approximately $108.3 billion places substantial expectations on the company’s future performance. Investors will need to assess its earnings, capital expenditure requirements, competitive pressures and ability to monetise its digital ecosystem.
Strong demand during the IPO indicates that investors are willing to seek exposure to the company at the offered price. It does not, by itself, establish that the shares are undervalued or that they will deliver positive returns after listing.
The broader performance of Indian equities and global technology stocks could also influence investor sentiment when trading begins.
What happens after the IPO closes?
Once bidding ends, the issue moves to the allotment process. Applicants can check their allotment status through the registrar and relevant exchange or IPO platforms after the basis of allotment is finalised.
Investors who do not receive shares are expected to receive refunds or have blocked application funds released according to the prescribed timetable. Successful applicants are expected to receive their shares before the scheduled listing.
The listing on October 28 will provide the first public-market assessment of Jio Platforms’ valuation, although its longer-term performance will depend on business results and market conditions.
A landmark test for India’s IPO market
Jio Platforms’ strong investor response represents a major moment for India’s primary market, bringing a large digital and telecommunications business into the public equity market.
The record number of applications and heavy institutional demand underline the appetite for prominent Indian companies with long-term growth potential.
The next test will be whether the company can justify investor expectations through sustained earnings growth and whether the enthusiasm seen during the IPO translates into demand once the shares begin trading.
