The acquisition brings together Infineon’s semiconductor expertise and C2i’s digital power-management tech as demand for efficient AI infrastructure grows.
Infineon Technologies, a German semiconductor company, has acquired Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, strengthening its power-management capabilities for artificial intelligence data centres. The deal, announced on Monday, aims to combine C2i’s expertise in software-defined power management with Infineon’s established portfolio of power semiconductors and power systems. The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions.
The acquisition also expands Infineon’s research and development footprint in India, where the company currently employs around 2,800 people. Bengaluru is expected to play a larger role in the company’s work on digital power technologies and AI infrastructure.
Why does power management matter for AI?
The rapid expansion of AI applications is creating a less visible challenge for data centre operators: managing enormous and increasingly variable electricity demand. Modern AI processors can experience sharp changes in power requirements, placing greater pressure on systems responsible for converting, regulating and delivering electricity. As computing power and server density increase, efficient power delivery has become a key factor in data centre performance, reliability, and scalability.
Infineon has identified power delivery as a critical part of the AI infrastructure chain, from the electricity grid to the processor. Its existing portfolio includes silicon, silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) technologies for different stages of power conversion.
C2i brings digital power expertise.
Founded in Bengaluru in 2024, C2i Semiconductors has focused on power-management technologies for AI data centres and cloud infrastructure. Its work includes software-defined multiphase controllers, smart power stages and system-level power architectures.
The company’s technology is designed to make power delivery more responsive to changing workloads. This is particularly relevant as AI servers move towards higher power densities and more demanding computing requirements. C2i has also been developing solutions based on a “grid-to-core” approach, addressing power delivery across the system rather than treating individual components in isolation.
The acquisition comes as India continues to build its semiconductor design and engineering ecosystem. C2i has received support under the government’s Design Linked Incentive scheme and has developed an engineering team focused on power-management semiconductor technologies.
As AI infrastructure expands, managing electricity efficiently is likely to become as important as increasing computing capacity. The Infineon-C2i deal highlights how semiconductor companies are increasingly looking beyond processors themselves to the power systems that keep AI infrastructure running.
