As digital advertising crosses the $1 trillion mark, AI emerges as the industry’s next major growth engine.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been rapidly transforming the global advertising landscape, going beyond automation to become a core driver of how brands reach, engage, and measure audiences. As per a recent report by Redseer Strategy Consultants, AI is expected to power the next phase of growth in the global advertising industry, fundamentally altering everything from campaign creation to audience targeting and performance measurement.
The fundings have come at a time when global ad expenditure has surpassed a whopping $1 trillion milestone. Digital channels now account for nearly three-quarters of total advertising spend worldwide, making technology-driven innovation more important than ever.
AI moves beyond automation.
For years, advertisers have relied on automation to streamline media buying and campaign management. However, the latest wave of AI adoption is going much further. According to the report, artificial intelligence is now influencing nearly every layer of the advertising ecosystem, including content creation, ad targeting, consumer insights, commerce integration, attribution, and campaign optimisation. Technologies such as machine learning-based bidding systems, recommendation engines, predictive analytics, and AI-powered creative tools are enabling marketers to make faster and more precise decisions. Rather than simply improving efficiency, these tools are reshaping how advertising itself is designed and delivered.
The report highlights that approximately 80–85% of digital advertising transactions are already conducted through programmatic platforms, where software and algorithms automate the buying and selling of ad inventory. AI is expected to further enhance these systems by improving targeting accuracy, audience segmentation, and campaign performance. As advertisers seek measurable business outcomes, AI-driven tools are increasingly helping brands connect advertising investments directly with revenue growth and customer acquisition. This shift is encouraging businesses to view advertising not merely as a branding exercise but as a strategic growth lever.
India emerges as a Key AdTech Hub
One of the report’s most notable observations is India’s growing role in the global AI-powered advertising ecosystem. With a large technology talent pool, expanding digital infrastructure, and a thriving startup environment, India is increasingly positioned as a centre for AdTech innovation. Redseer notes that many Indian-origin advertising technology companies are evolving from service providers into global product-driven businesses. This transition could allow them to capture greater value in areas such as fraud detection, brand safety, measurement technologies, and AI-powered marketing solutions.
As privacy regulations evolve and consumer attention becomes increasingly fragmented across platforms, advertisers are under pressure to deliver more personalised and measurable experiences. AI is emerging as the technology capable of meeting those demands at scale.
While challenges around data governance, transparency, and consumer trust remain, industry experts believe artificial intelligence will play a defining role in the next decade of advertising. For brands, agencies, and technology providers alike, the shift represents more than a technological upgrade; it marks a fundamental transformation in how advertising is created, distributed, and measured in the digital age.
