Telangana sharpens its innovation pitch as Sridhar Babucalls on entrepreneurs to build in the state

With the continuous expansion of India’s startup ecosystem beyond traditional tech hubs, Telangana is positioning itself as a key destination for innovation, investment, and industrial growth.

Telangana is now stepping up its efforts to attract innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology-driven businesses, with state IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babumaking a direct pitch to creators and startup founders to bring their ideas to the state. His message was simple that innovation may not always guarantee success, but the state aims to provide the ecosystem needed to help ideas grow.

The statement reflects Telangana’s broader push to strengthen its reputation as one of India’s emerging innovation hubs. Over the past few years, Hyderabad has increasingly become a centre for startups, technology, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing, supported by state-led policy initiatives and infrastructure development.

Building an ecosystem beyond funding.

What sets Telangana’s approach apart is its focus on creating an ecosystem rather than just attracting investments. The government has been actively promoting incubation centres, innovation labs, and skilling initiatives to support entrepreneurs at different stages of growth.

Sridhar Babu has repeatedly highlighted the importance of turning ideas into scalable businesses, not only in urban centres but also across smaller towns and rural regions. This broader inclusion strategy aligns with Telangana’s vision of decentralised economic development. The state has also gained attention for its strong industrial conversion rate, with officials claiming a significant percentage of signed investment agreements have moved into execution, a figure notably higher than the national average.

Telangana’s growing role in India’s innovation economy.

As India competes globally for technology investment, states are increasingly being judged on policy agility, infrastructure, and talent availability. Telangana appears to be leveraging all three to build long-term competitiveness.

Its emphasis on sectors like artificial intelligence, green pharma, electronics, and smart city development shows a wider ambition beyond conventional IT services. The government’s larger vision positions Telangana as a future-ready, industrial, and innovation-driven economy. India’s startup ecosystem, Telangana’s evolving model signals a shift: innovation is no longer confined to Bengaluru or Mumbai. Regional hubs are becoming central to the country’s next phase of economic growth.
