Administrative intervention in Poonch addresses pending compensation and land-related cases, clearing the way for construction to progress.
Work on the Akhnoor-Poonch National Highway (NH-144A) is set to move forward with fewer administrative hurdles after officials addressed several land acquisition and compensation-related issues during a field inspection in Poonch district.
Poonch Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma recently inspected the highway stretch between Sanjiot and Poonch along with district officials, Border Roads Organization (BRO) representatives and other agencies involved in the project. The inspection focused on locations where unresolved land matters had affected construction.
The team examined land acquisition and compensation issues.
Officials reviewed cases involving land acquisition, compensation and other administrative concerns at different construction sites. The BRO team briefed the district administration on work progress and locations where pending matters were affecting execution.
The Deputy Commissioner also met affected landowners and other stakeholders to examine their concerns. According to the official statement, several pending cases related to land acquisition and compensation were resolved during the field visit. The availability of land records, acquisition files and compensation documents at the sites allowed officials to verify cases and take decisions without lengthy administrative delays. The process also helped facilitate the transfer of obstruction-free stretches to the agencies carrying out the highway work.
Focus on time-bound resolution.
The district administration has directed the concerned departments to maintain closer coordination and adopt a time-bound approach to pending cases. The objective is to prevent unresolved administrative matters from becoming further obstacles to NH-144A construction.
The development comes amid broader efforts in Jammu and Kashmir to address bottlenecks affecting major road and connectivity projects. Recent reviews by the administration have also stressed faster resolution of land-related requirements and other clearances linked to infrastructure works.
While several issues have now been addressed, officials have been asked to continue monitoring the remaining cases. The emphasis remains on resolving administrative constraints promptly so that construction activity can proceed without avoidable interruptions. The latest field-level intervention therefore represents an administrative step towards maintaining the pace of work on the Akhnoor–Poonch highway, with further progress dependent on continued coordination between district authorities, landowners and executing agencies.
