The state to focus on AI training, emerging technologies, and research as India works to build a future-ready workforce.
Madhya Pradesh is preparing to take a larger role in India’s push to develop an AI-ready workforce, with the state set to participate in a broader national effort around science, technology, and emerging skills. The Union Cabinet has reportedly cleared a massive ₹734 crore for initiatives in the science and tech space, with AI skilling emerging as a key focus.
The development comes as AI rapidly changes the nature of jobs across industries. From software and financial services to manufacturing, healthcare, and government, demand is growing for workers who can understand and apply AI-based tools.
Building skills beyond traditional technology.
For Madhya Pradesh, the focus isn’t limited to introducing AI courses. The state is expected to work on training infrastructure and collaborate with industry and educational institutions to expand access to emerging technology skills.
This approach fits into the state’s wider technology agenda. Madhya Pradesh has already outlined policies covering areas such as semiconductors, drones, animation and extended reality, and global capability centres. The state’s science and technology policy has also identified artificial intelligence, quantum computing, 5G, semiconductors, blockchain and other emerging technologies as areas requiring stronger human-resource development.
Universities likely to play a key role.
Educational institutions are expected to play an important role in the AI skilling programme in Madhya Pradesh. The state is already moving towards specialised academic infrastructure, including a planned Centre of Excellence for AI and machine learning at Devi AhilyaVishwavidyalaya in Indore.
Such centres can give students and professionals access to training, research opportunities, and industry-linked programmes while helping universities keep pace with changing technology requirements. The larger challenge will be ensuring that training translates into practical employment opportunities. Simply increasing the number of AI courses may not be enough unless programmes are aligned with what companies actually require.
Madhya Pradesh has increasingly linked its technology policies with employment, innovation and investment. Its broader industrial policy, for instance, has targeted job creation alongside investment across emerging sectors. The ₹734 crore allocation therefore comes at an important point in the state’s technology transition.
If implemented effectively, the AI skilling initiative could help create a workforce better prepared for an economy where digital and AI capabilities are becoming increasingly important.
