Emergent Becomes India's Newest Unicorn with $130 Million Series C

Vibe-coding platform’s valuation jumps 5x in four months after switching its focus from enterprises to SMBs

Funding Round Details

AI startup Emergent from Bengaluru just became a unicorn after closing its $130M Series C round. The deal puts the company’s valuation at $1.5 billion, a 5x jump from just four months ago. The round was led by Creaegis and co-led by Claypond Capital and Sentinel Global. Existing investors including Khosla Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed and Y Combinator participated in the round. Emergent, which launched in June 2025, has now raised $230M in total following its December Series B which was for $140M at a $300M valuation.

Betting on Small Businesses, Not Enterprise

Founder and CEO Mukund Jha says the company’s growth is being driven by small and medium businesses rather than large enterprise clients, even though earlier plans hinted at an enterprise push. He argues that traditional software vendors have long ignored small business verticals because serving them individually isn’t profitable enough to justify sales costs. Emergent aims to let non-technical users build functional software — from scheduling tools for yoga studios to systems for car dealerships — without writing code. Jha says the platform now serves over 200,000 paying customers, though he didn’t disclose free-to-paid conversion figures.

Origins and Competitive Positioning

Jha had co-founded delivery app Dunzo before stepping down from the company in 2023 to pursue AI software generation with his brother Madhav. Early investors weren’t keen on the venture at first but following a Y Combinator demo day last year, the startup started to focus on vibe-coding instead. Unlike typical developer tools, Jha stresses that Emergent is targeted towards users with no prior coding knowledge and has automated testing, debugging, and hosting – all powered by the company’s own infrastructure.

The fresh capital will fund go-to-market expansion and reliability improvements as users build more complex applications, with a mobile app-building feature already live and AI agent tools planned next.
