Recently, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Mr DevendraFadnavis highlighted on embracing the AI revolution. Speaking at the inauguration of an AI Centre of Competency powered by NVIDIA at Ramdeobaba University in Nagpur, he urged universities to bring together education and AI for defining the next phase of global innovation.
His remarks have come at a time when businesses, governments, and academic institutions are increasingly recognizing the growing influence of emerging technologies on employment, research, and economic development.

Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis highlighted the rapid pace of technological transformation and noted that educational institutions have a crucial role in preparing students for future careers. He observed that industrial revolutions have evolved at an unprecedented speed, with Industry 4.0 giving way to a stronger focus on AI, deep technology and frontier innovations.
According to the Chief Minister, universities should prioritize developing industry-ready professionals rather than limiting their role to awarding academic degrees. He urged institutions to regularly update their curricula, teaching methods and research priorities so graduates remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven job market.

Fadnavis also pointed to the growing use of AI beyond the technology sector, particularly in agriculture and public services. He cited Maharashtra’s AI-powered Mahavistar mobile application, which enables farmers to receive answers to agriculture-related queries in their preferred language, as an example of how digital technologies can improve governance and public outreach. The example reflects a broader trend of governments integrating AI into citizen services, healthcare, education and agriculture to improve efficiency and accessibility.
The Chief Minister stressed that closer collaboration between universities and industry will be essential as demand for advanced technical skills continues to grow. He encouraged educational institutions to monitor changing industry needs and design programmes that prepare students for emerging career opportunities in areas such as AI, semiconductor manufacturing and quantum computing.
