Cosmos Diamonds Builds a Bootstrapped Bet on India's Lab-Grown Jewellery Boom

Founded by Sanjana Tripuramallu after a challenging search for an engagement ring, the brand combines classic style with 100 percent buyback guarantee in order to appeal to Indian wedding customers

Cosmos Diamonds, a bootstrapped lab-grown jewellery brand founded by Sanjana Tripuramallu, is carving out space in India’s crowded bridal jewellery market by combining traditional design with a full buyback guarantee, betting that trust, not just price, will win over Indian buyers.

A frustrating search sparks an idea

Tripuramallu, who graduated from the National Institute of Design, conceived the idea while looking for her engagement ring in 2020, just before her wedding in May 2021. She observed a gap in the market for timeless designs among lab-grown diamonds that was missing from most brands offering plain Western pieces, in that the suppliers of lab-grown diamonds offered overpriced diamonds with little resale value.

Trust as the core product

Founded in 2021, Cosmos Diamonds built its offering around a contractual 100 percent buyback policy, letting customers choose between cash refunds and store credit, a stronger guarantee than the partial buybacks most competitors offer. Tripuramallu said the approach was shaped by conversations with more than 1,000 women during the brand’s early development.

Scaling on its own terms

The company’s revenue for FY26 stood at ₹20 crore, twice the FY25 figure of ₹9.77 crore. The numbers include a 55 percent conversion rate for in-store purchases and nearly 40 percent repeat customers. The brand operates flagship stores in Bengaluru and Vijayawada.

Betting against the funding trend

In contrast to various competing companies that use venture capital for growth, Cosmos Diamonds relies on self-funding. Tripuramallu firmly believes that self-funding helps establish more financial discipline. According to Vantage Market Research, the market for lab-grown diamond jewelry in India is projected to grow from $2.8 billion in 2025 to $11.6 billion by 2035, which is a market Cosmos Diamonds aims to capture without external funding.
