The Innovation Endorsement recognizes eVa COLREGS, a maritime training platform designed to help seafarers and maritime institutions strengthen practical understanding of collision-prevention rules through AI and simulation.
The Japanese classification society ClassNK has granted its Innovation Endorsement for Products & Solutions to eVa COLREGS, an AI-powered maritime training platform developed by Goa-based eDOT Solutions. The endorsement was announced on August 14, 2026, and covers several technology features intended to support training in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, commonly known as COLREG.
COLREG provides the rules that govern how vessels should behave to reduce the risk of collisions at sea. For seafarers and maritime students, understanding these rules is essential to navigation and bridge training.
AI and simulation are used in maritime training.
According to ClassNK, eVa COLREGS combines artificial intelligence with simulated maritime situations to create a more interactive training environment. Its certified functions include an AI-powered system that generates contextual questions for adaptive assessments and provides real-time, rule-based feedback during training sessions.
The platform also uses AI to analyze performance after a training session. Another component focuses on identifying vessel lights, shapes and sound signals through simulated encounters, allowing trainees to practise recognizing situations that can arise during navigation.
3D scenarios help recreate bridge environments.
The system uses 3D maritime simulation developed with Unreal Engine, along with configurable multi-monitor bridge arrangements. It can be delivered through a native desktop application or accessed through browser-based game streaming, giving training providers multiple deployment options.
These capabilities are intended to move COLREG training beyond conventional question-based assessments by placing learners in simulated navigation scenarios where they can apply the rules in context.
ClassNK said its Innovation Endorsement programme is intended to encourage the adoption of innovative technologies by providing third-party certification for equipment and software with innovative functions. The endorsement does not replace the need for appropriate maritime training, qualifications or operational procedures.
eDOT Solutions, headquartered in Goa, develops digital and AI-based solutions for the maritime industry. The recognition of eVa COLREGS comes as shipping companies and maritime education providers increasingly explore simulation, artificial intelligence, and digital learning tools to improve how seafarers prepare for real-world navigation challenges.
