Brevistay’s majority stake acquired by Ixigo for ₹65.69 crore

Ixigo has now strengthened its hotel business through the Brevistay acquisition and is backing AI startups for future growth.

India’s tech sector is witnessing another phase of consolidation as travel platform Ixigo moves to strengthen its presence in the hotel segment by acquiring a majority stake in Brevistay. Alongside the deal, the company has announced investments in two artificial intelligence startups, signalling a broader strategy that combines hospitality expansion with tech-led innovation.

A strategic push into the hotel segment.

Ixigo has approved the acquisition of a 54.66% stake in Brevistay for approximately ₹65.69 crore through a combination of primary and secondary share purchases. The transaction is expected to make Brevistay a subsidiary of the company upon completion. The move is aimed at enhancing Ixigo’s hotel offerings and increasing its footprint in India’s accommodation market.  The acquisition is expected to strengthen Ixigo’s direct hotel inventory significantly. Together, the two companies are projected to have access to more than 10,000 directly contracted hotels across India, providing a stronger foundation for growth in the highly competitive online travel market. While Ixigo has built its reputation through train, flight and bus bookings, the hotel segment has increasingly become a key growth area for online travel companies.

For ixigo, the acquisition offers an opportunity to diversify revenue streams while deepening customer engagement across the entire travel journey, from transportation to accommodation. In addition to the Brevistay deal, ixigo has committed around ₹12 crore towards investments in two artificial intelligence startups. The company has not positioned these investments as standalone financial bets; rather, they appear to align with a broader effort to enhance technology capabilities across its travel ecosystem. Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming central to the travel industry, powering personalised recommendations, dynamic pricing, customer support and predictive travel planning. By investing in emerging AI ventures, ixigo is positioning itself to benefit from technological advancements that could improve user experience and operational efficiency in the years ahead.

Part of a broader expansion strategy.

The Brevistay acquisition follows a series of strategic moves by Ixigo aimed at expanding its market presence. Earlier this year, the company announced international expansion efforts, including acquisitions in Europe’s travel technology ecosystem. These developments indicate a growing focus on scaling beyond its traditional business lines while leveraging technology to drive future growth.

As competition intensifies across the online travel industry, companies that successfully integrate accommodation services and advanced technology may be better positioned to capture the next phase of growth.
