The new investment takes Amazon’s total India commitment to $48 billion by 2030.
Amazon has proposed adding $13 billion to expand artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in India, bringing its total committed investment in the country to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030. The figure builds on the $35 billion investment in all of Amazon’s businesses in India that it announced in 2025. It is part of a broader push by Amazon to increase its presence in the Indian market.
Where the Money Is Going
According to the company, the new capital will expand AWS data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, giving startups, enterprises, and government organisations greater access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, secure cloud technologies, and developer tools. The stated goal is to help Indian organisations innovate faster, scale operations, and serve customers on a global scale.
Following a Meeting With PM Modi
The announcement came shortly after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. During the meeting, Jassy emphasised India’s growing importance to Amazon, which operates multiple business lines in the country, including e-commerce, AI and cloud services, and entertainment.
Part of a Broader Global AI Race
The competition among the US technology giants to invest in India is set to intensify as they all seek to gain ground in the Indian market. For India, Amazon’s enhanced commitment will contribute to its efforts to build AI capabilities, attract more investment, and position itself as a global AI destination on par with the most advanced markets in the US and Europe.
